Ms. Barnes is a partner at Foley and Lardner, LLP in San Francisco.  As a member of the Finance & Financial Institutions Practice Group, she focuses on commercial lending, banking finance, and commercial transactions, including syndications and participations, project financing, asset-based lending, equipment finance, workouts, and debtor in possession financing.  Ms. Barnes also serves as president and executive director of Lawyers For One America, a national nonprofit organization responsible for a pro bono law office serving the working poor and providing business and transactional assistance aimed at ensuring economic self-sufficiency to underserved communities.   She also leads LFOA's Diversity Center, which seeks to increase diversity at all levels and within all sectors of the legal profession.  Prior to joining Foley, Ms. Barnes served as the associate general counsel and senior vice president of Bank of America, where she was a senior manager and member of the policy committee for the Legal Department.

Ms. Barnes has served as a member of the Rice University Board of Trustees since 1997 and currently serves as the chairman of the Audit Committee and a member of the Finance and Nominating committees.   She serves on the boards of directors of the American Conservatory Theater and On Lok, Inc. 

Ms. Barnes’ son, Aaron Sankin, graduated from Rice in 2006.  She resides in Tiburon, California with her husband Alan Sankin and son Zachary Sankin.
