Mr. Contreras is a senior partner and vice chairman of the Internet and E-commerce Group at Hale & Dorr, L.L.P., an international law firm. His practice is concentrated on technology agreements, international law, and corporate law. He has represented U.S. and international clients in connection with a wide variety of technology and corporate matters, including licensing, R&D, consortia, joint ventures, manufacturing, outsourcing, and technology acquisitions. His clients are active in the fields of computer software, services and hardware, semiconductor devices and equipment, online content delivery, bioinformatics and genomics.
From 2000 to 2002, Mr. Contreras was in residence at the firm’s London office, where he advised U.S. and European clients regarding international legal issues, the formation of transnational joint ventures, and financing in the United States and abroad. In 1997, he spent four months in residence at the Mexico City office of Santamarina y Steta S.C., a major Mexican law firm. Mr. Contreras originally joined Hale and Dorr in 1992 and became a senior partner in 1999. Prior to joining Hale and Dorr, he served as a briefing attorney to Chief Justice Thomas R. Phillips of the Texas Supreme Court.
