Rice Media Center
Part of the Gray/Wawro Lecture Series in Gender, Health, and Well-being. Free and open to the public. Reception before talk at 5:30 p.m. on 1st floor of the Rice Media Center. Lecture Abstract: In this talk Cohen will explore the impact of black feminism on the Movement for Black Lives. While many have tied the Movement for Black Lives to the Civil Rights Movement and the Black Power Movement, far fewer have explored its ties to a radical black feminism. Cohen discusses why such omissions are problematic and how centering black feminism opens up new possibilities for black politics in the age of Trump.
