Health Sciences and Spanish and Portuguese Majors | Biosciences and Medical Humanities Minor | Sid Richardson

Sriya is a Sid Richardson College Senior majoring in Health Science and Spanish, and minoring in Medical Humanities on the pre-medical track. After taking several introductions to humanities courses and training as a community healthcare worker, she became passionate about looking at healthcare through a humanities-oriented lens to improve healthcare quality and outcomes. Driven by this passion, she joined the Moody Fellowship, eager to learn more about how to use her background in the Humanities to engage in research. Her fellowship project focuses on the adaptation of electronic health record systems as a portal for patient education and engagement amongst adolescent patients at the Baylor Teen Health Clinic. She believes that this project would allow community clinics to make patient education more accessible and prevent unnecessary recurrence.

Outside of the Humanities, she engages in scholarly endeavors such as clinical research and public health programming as a researcher and community healthcare worker. In her free time, you’ll find her spending quality time with her friends and family and reading.

Research Interests: I'm interested in finding ways to make healthcare accessible for underserved communities through leveraging existing patient portal systems as tool for education. I'm currently working with the Baylor Teen Health Clinic to find gaps in their portal system and incentivize self-efficacy of care amongst adolescents.
