As director of communications for the School of Humanities, John Waterhouse is charged with developing and overseeing efforts to enhance the image of Rice Humanities inside and outside the hedges. He comes to us from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore where he worked since 1999, most recently as communications director in the Development and Alumni Relations Office of Communications.
He brings to Rice more than 20 years of experience as a strategic thought leader, storyteller, and mentor to teams responsible for developing creative and measurable messaging and tools to engage internal and external audiences, promote a sense of pride in the institution, and strengthen the desire to be connected to it.
He seeks to do the same for the School of Humanities, where he will work closely with the dean, associate dean, the dean’s office, department chairs, center and program directors, and partners across the university to increase awareness of the school and support of its mission.
John is a native Iowan and graduate of the University of Iowa, where he met his wife Andrea. Their son Jack, 23, is a graduate of Baylor University, where he will be attending law school in the fall; their daughter Caroline, 21, is a Baylor senior; and their daughter Catie, 17, is a high school junior.
