The School of Humanities is like a full-sized liberal arts college embedded in a top-tier research university. Like a liberal arts college, the School of Humanities has a faculty that is very much present in the undergraduate classroom. At the same time, Rice values research, which means our humanities faculty have top-tier research records. We also have a larger humanities faculty than most liberal arts colleges, so we can offer more courses.
Five of our departments offer the PhD. Our graduate students receive the same individualized attention as our undergraduates. They do teach undergraduates, but only for the purpose of developing their teaching skills—not as replacements for regular faculty.
