Rice’s Humanities Research Center (HRC) fosters interdisciplinary research projects, courses, and conferences that bring together faculty, postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, and undergraduates, and connect them to the Texas Medical Center, Houston arts institutions, and more. The HRC also hosts the Rice Seminars.
The Chao Center for Asian Studies and the Center for the Study of Women, Gender and Sexuality offer a similar range of activities, focused on their areas. The Center for Critical and Cultural Theory is for faculty and graduate students. The latter two centers, along with the Department of Religion, offer graduate certificates earned concurrently with the PhD.
Finally, eight programs (interdisciplinary clusters of faculty who are based in various departments) offer 8 interdisciplinary majors or minors to undergraduates, augmenting the departments’ majors.
