Nhu Chu

Nhu Chu is a sophomore from Duncan College majoring in Art with a minor in French. Her work grapples with the weight of lines and boundaries–how these forms of distinctions appear through the formation of identity, culture, nature, and language. Influenced by artists such as Anna Boghiguian, Oswaldo Guayasamín, and Marlene Dumas, Nhu uses art to question historical assumptions about gender and instigate discussions about our lived experiences. She sees art as a way to document stories, interrogate our world, and preserve histories.

Her research focuses on the intersections of art, language, culture, and representation, particularly the role of women and the body as a site of identity and translation.

In her free time, Nhu enjoys playing the piano, finishing puzzles, and getting a solid eight hours of sleep.

Research interests: the intersections of art, language, and culture; representations of women; the body as a site of identity and translation.
