Our faculty members in the School of Humanities are award-winning scholars, writers and artists, and they're also award-winning teachers who are very much present in the undergraduate classroom.
The vast majority of courses in the School of Humanities are taught by tenured and tenure-track faculty. These are faculty to whom Rice has made a long-term commitment, and faculty who have made a long-term commitment to Rice.
The average class size in the School of Humanities is 13, at Rice, it's 14. At this scale, our faculty are ideal mentors for individual research projects, such as year-long honors theses. Students and faculty get to know each other well in class and are situated to launch individualized research projects. Students are encouraged to contact any faculty member to be guided toward an individual research mentor — possible matches are only a conversation away.
