Our current focus is on recruiting faculty who will enhance Rice’s international stature; enhancing innovation through the Rice Seminars, which leverage a community of interdisciplinary scholars from Rice and abroad; making meaningful study-abroad opportunities available to all of our students; and building the Moody Center for the Arts as a means of catalyzing a new era of innovation and energy at Rice and in Houston. Study Abroad Fellowships
Study abroad experiences, built upon innovative, research-based second language and international study abroad programs, prepare Rice students to thrive in a multicultural world through critical thinking skills that build an awareness of other cultures as well as their own. We hope to expand the Center for Language and Intercultural Communication (CLIC) summer travel fellowships that cultivate our students' intercultural communication ability through active, critical language use in its natural context. As the program expands to include more locations, funding for participants is crucial to ensure that all Rice students can take advantage of these opportunities for international engagement.
Undergraduate and Graduate Research
To provide a meaningful range of educational opportunities for all humanities students, we must provide research opportunities and professional development programs for undergraduates and graduate students to pursue education that transcends traditional classroom offerings. For undergraduates, funding will support additional research-intensive seminars, modular courses that are co-taught by Rice faculty and by professionals in healthcare and the arts, and professional internships that give students real-world experience. For graduate students, we will provide more competitive funding for graduate students to travel, participate in conferences, attend workshops and engage in international research.
Graduate Student Support
The School of Humanities maintains selective graduate studies programs that prepare students for careers in academic research, curatorial positions or other fields of work. Qualified graduate students often receive departmental stipends to cover living expenses.
Endow a Professorship
Endowed gifts are an enduring means of support for Rice University that create a lasting legacy for Rice’s donors. An endowment is a permanent fund given to an individual or an institution for the ongoing support of that organization. At Rice, endowments account for 40 percent of the operating budget and are structured so that the principal amount is kept whole while the investment income and gains are available for use each year to support university activities. Once established, an endowment grows over time and has an impact in perpetuity. The impact of these generous gifts is seen and felt across campus every day, ensuring a sustainable base for future Owls.

Honorary gifts can be a thoughtful way to show your appreciation for a professor. Donations can be made online or mailed. Those being honored will be notified of your gift.
Center for the Study of Women, Gender, and Sexuality
Established in 2006 as an outgrowth of the Program for the Study of Women, Gender, and Sexuality, the Center now encompasses interdisciplinary academic programs and research intensive opportunities.
George R. Brown Forensics Society
Founded in 1984, the society replaced the original Rice Forensic Society which existed from 1954 to 1964. The team represents Rice by competing in speech and debate tournaments throughout the United States.
Jewish Studies
Jewish Studies is an interdisciplinary field that crosses traditional boundaries between academic fields and departments. Courses in Jewish Studies allow students to study Judaism as it has evolved from an ancient set of shared religious practices into the pluralistic religion and culture that it is today. In both the humanities and social sciences, Jewish Studies broadly examines the texts, history, languages, philosophy, literature, and culture of the Jewish people from the ancient to the modern. The study of Jewish life and culture provides an opportunity to explore the continuities and diversity of Judaism as it has been lived and practiced for over three millennia all over the world.
