For the first time in Rice’s history, prospective undergraduates may submit an art portfolio for review and consideration as a component of their application. This comes at a time when four new faculty hires have expanded and enriched the capacity and focus of our arts department, and when enrollment numbers in art classes have reached an all-time high. With growing demand, offering high-caliber undergraduate research opportunities in the arts might mean that our students encounter basic material needs, they may have to source transportation to see and experience art and often their research may require project-specific travel beyond the Houston region.
