History and Business Major | Politics, Law, and Social Thought Minor | Baker College

I am Michael Garcia, a sophomore at Baker College seeking a degree in both History and Business with a minor in Politics, Law, and Social Thought. I am from Alton, Texas, a small town deep in the southern portion of Texas, next to the US-Mexican border. I originally came to Rice University as a Political Science major, but after my first History course, I realized where my passions were and I chose to pursue History instead. I am so appreciative and grateful of the opportunities that the History department at Rice offers, and it is my dream to engage with it as much as possible, especially including research. Towards the future, I hope to one day practice law, using the skills I gain from my time here at Rice and doing research.

Research Interests: My interests lie in Latin America and the formation, construction, and contextualization of racial identities and radicalism
