Nicholas (he/him) is a senior at McMurtry majoring in Transnational Asian Studies and Economics and pursuing a minor in Energy and Water Sustainability Minor. His academic interests focus on the history of modernization, identity, and economic development in East Asia. He previously explored the social history of Japanese immigrants in Shanghai, and during his year abroad at the London School of Economics, He studied urban-rural dynamics in China during the Republican Era with Professor Kent Deng, leading to a publication in LSE’s Knowles Review of Economic History. His current research explores the socio-economic impacts of internal migration and industrialization in China, focusing on Mao's Third Front Movement. He is particularly interested in how state-led projects have contributed to enduring socio-economic disparities between China’s inland and coastal regions.

Research Interests: Economic Development, Identity and Migration, Environment Justice and Sustainable Growth.
