Passionate and imaginative teachers and mentors, our faculty are fiercely committed to critical engagement and rigorous analysis of the world’s most pressing problems — past, present and future.
While many universities are reducing resources for humanities disciplines, here in the School of Humanities, we are not just holding steady but thriving. With gratitude to our search committees for their hard work and to President Reginald DesRoches and Provost Amy Dittmar for their continued investments in the humanities and the arts, we continue to recruit to Rice the next generation of stellar and diverse humanities faculty.
Since 2018, we have hired 50 new faculty, and with additional searches under way — for appointments in Art History, History, German (Modern and Classical Literatures and Cultures), Creative Writing, Religion and Transnational Asian Studies — our transformation and growth continue, defying national humanities trends.
